oh long long long day. sold a ton of travel. it seems that everyone is going someplace and needs to buy it now! but, hey, it's a good living.

tried to knit for a second but am so knackered.

the leather idea is kinda bogus. i will need skinnier laces. will still try it again.

mood: down.
feeling the weight of the world and my unfinished plans upon my shoulders.

Bam has given me a spool of leather lace that I mentioned might be interesting to try knitting with! I will have to see what needles I have available and try something to see how it turns out!

We just came back from Home Depot where we got some materials for him to build new shelves for our bathroom. After the trip to Aruba we've decided on a tropical/pirate theme for the loo. With his creative mind, it ought to be very cool! But while we were at HD, he went for the dowels to make the shelves without screws and then said, get the sizes you want for knitting needles and tell me how long to make them and I'll make some more for you! How cool is that?

Well, I've finally gotten the ribbing stitch together. After unraveling Bam's cashmere scarf something like six times, it is now started with a knit selvedge stitch on each side so it will not roll! One of the kind ladies in the Stitch n Bitch Club LA helped me thru email. Thank you Patty K!

Work starts full on again tomorrow and I hope I have time to knit again. It can be so exhausting!

We've been looking after a friend's zebra finch for a few days and now I've decided I simply must have a cockatiel. They seem so fun and I miss having a pet so darn bad. So that's my next big mission. It will be a life decision so I want to be sure I know what I'm doing.

Oh.........in the van coming back from HD, Bam and I planned a really funny photo. Using the uncut huge lengths of dowel, I could start to knit something and then he could photoshop it to look like I'm knitting a Ford Mustang! Look! I've KNITTED A CAR!!!!!!! ha ha!

scarves galore

well, i'm knitting knitting knitting.
I've got my dad's scarf underway. his will take the longest. darn it all! but it's beautiful browns and blues. i'm through with the first skein and i must admit, it's kinda slow and the stitches are small. now i understand what everyone talks about when they say READ THE GAUGES! yes.

my mom's is beautiful but it won't keep her warm! just ribbons of gorgeous pastels. very lovely. more of an accent piece.

bam's mum's is gonna be first done. i finally wised up and bought lions pride chenille quick knit yarn. hers is deep red with tan accents to match her tawny coat and red hair. hardly knitted and it's flying along.

bam's dad's i haven't started yet but it's gonna be navy blue and again, the lions pride in wool ease. very fast stuff.

bam's scarf is super yummy cashmere blend. wow. expensive, yes. delicious yes. but i'm trying to do a ribbed pattern and i unraveled it like 5 times and then put it away to start over when i'm rested. ah well.

gotta run.

oh! need to find baby pink and silver yarn for charlotte.
plus rainbow scarf for emma.
don't know what for sam yet.

Oh my gosh!

I must've been insane! La Knitterie Parisienne is overwhelmingly full of amazing yarns and just too many of them are gorgeous beyond belief. I spent a small fortune on yarn and started knitting last night.

The one for my dad is going to take 5 skeins I was told but it is coming out beautifully. A combination of browns and blues in a soft nubby yarn.

The one for my mother is gorgeous pastels in a ribbon style however, I encountered a strange problem because it was a 'hank' of yarn and I couldn't find an end to start with. In the process of searching, I managed to untwist the hank and now it is pretty much a big knot of yarn. egads. Since the yarn is so shabby chic looking to begin with, I am hoping the process of having to break the yarn free from the hank knots will be okay to just cut it and tie it with little knots. In any event, I started knitting it and am just moving forward with a slightly heavy heart but still hopeful because I'm a new knitter and don't know any better!

A black tweedy cashmere yarn was THE one for my pirate hubby. It has specks of white in it and will look so british and hip when it's a scarf.

I also splurged on a pink nubby soft one for me. Very yummy against the skin.

At the last second, I found some soft browns/tans/cremes in a yarn that was quite inexpensive and got enough of that for my Aunt June. (my name sake....middle name.) She has always been so nice to me and on my last visit I noticed she didn't have a warm scarf.

I will take some pics of the yarn for reference and then when the pieces are done I'll post the scarves. It will help me to visualize the finished pieces in the future! Definitely a difficult thing to do when you're a newbie.

Shop today!

I am so excited! Today is the day my friend, Carol and I are going to La Knitterie Parisienne. I want to find some yarn that looks right for a scarf for my Dad. Plus, I've read so much about this store I am eager to go and check it out for myself.

In other news, feeling a bit lost after our trip to the Caribbean. *sigh. It was so nice to relax. Ah well. Must sell travel again for more free trips!

Stitch by stitch

It's true. I've taken up knitting. It has become my latest addiction. Somehow it ties into being an anarchist and it feels downright rebelliious. There is something so rewarding about going stitch by stitch and ending up with this thing that you can actually wear. It has helped me to finish our album because I saw the power of getting things done slowly. You still get them done. Just not in one night.

I tend to be a very impatient person so knitting is helping me zen out dude. Anyway, I knitted in Minnesota, Aruba and the airplanes between those places and smoggy LA. So the baby blanket I made is very worldly! ha!

Next is a trip to the tres chic La Knitterie Parisienne and I will start a Christmas present scarf for my Dad and hopefully even more. the owner of the shop is a french lady who is supposed to be an amazing knitter and the shop employees are very helpful.

Well, time to knit one, purl one.....ha!
