Knit Addictions

Quick wedding report...

It has been an insane weekend.  I never handle a large group of family very well and this weekend was no exception.  But I'm still here and still breathing.  Whew.

I'll grab some pics soon......but for now.......I gotta say........the wedding band ended the night with the drummer who left his kit and stood front and center in his kilt and sang his heart out to Danny Boy.  A rousing standing ovation and then, as if that wasn't enough......he jumped back on his drums and they did AC/DC which he ALSO sang!  Never before has Danny Boy been followed by AC/DC!  Cahrazy.

But seriously, the wedding was lovely, unique and I'm so very happy for my bro in law.

Ponderings...

So we ALL went running today!  It was my fourth day in a row and Bam's and Max's first.  They did pretty well.  It's a lot of uphill jogging so not the easiest but I like fast results!  That's my big health news.

In the world of knitting......picked up the new Vogue Knitting tonight.  Am seriously pondering several designs in it.  Bam flipped over the orange cardi (he's so damn hip!) and I was interested in quite a few of the designs to jump off from.  I haven't had much time nor space to knit what with the wedding and Max here.  But it's all good!

Knitting gossip: Ashley Paige has a book deal.  She designs bikinis knit on size 3's and 5's.  Her designs are awesome...but here's the kicker?  She doesn't actually knit!  I find that hilarious!!!  You go Ashley!!!!!

Here's a random thought stolen from a movie.........if everyone's kids are so special, then where do all the normal boring grownups come from??????????

Thank you for the answer to that woods Sherlock Holmes game problem! ha!  I haven't had time yet to try it again........maybe later tonight.

Thursdays....

What is it about Thursdays that I love?  I don't know but they usually make me happy.  The sky is clear here in LA and I have started a new regime.  Yep.  I used to be one of those impossible people who went running every morning.  And on Tuesday, I had this insane experience in our van -

• a Metro bus got a flat tire right in front of me
• a stoplight went out at a MAJOR city intersection
• my rear view mirror fell off

So, what should've been a 40 minute trip became something like a 2 hour trip of stop and go in our van with it's bad personality transmission.  When I finally walked in the door, I was shaking with anger and frustration and did what any normal ex-runner would do.  I put on my running gear and pounded the pavement for 30 minutes!  Seeing as how I'm pretty out of practice/shape etc.......I did it again yesterday and now I'm out the door yet again!  I love it!

But the best part?  My 75 year old mom emailed me to tell me she'd had a stress test where they put you on a treadmill and try to sorta wear you out.  Anyway, she found the treadmill part so exhilarating that now she is actually using her own treadmill yet again!  So mother and daughter started walking/jogging ON EXACTLY THE SAME DAY!!!!  Isn't that freaky?

In knitting.......I have to take a pic of the little choker I made.  (need batteries again! argh)  Everyone thinks it's leather.  Crazy.  But it's tartelle by K1Ctoo.

Thank you to all you commenters.  Nice to know I'm not the only one who thinks Rowan are uppity and snooty.  And on the other hand, that Alchemy are soooo personable.  Cah-razy!

Hmmmmmmm.........My bro in law is getting married in two days and life just keeps getting faster.  Max, my stepson arrives tonight.  We had dinner in Bev Hills last night with our pals and Bam's mum and dad.  I have to admit....if you know me, you will not be shocked that I'm dreading the wedding day on saturday.  I just hate 'functions'.  errrrrrrr.  We have to be there so early cuz Bam is the best man and ...well, I just hate hanging around.  I mean, I could be knitting.  I could be building a website.  I could be jogging!  ha ha ha!!!!  Anyway, I should just shut up and be a nice sis n law but it's so hard for me to be that nice.  meow.  grrrrrrrrrrr.

Due to lack of photos, here are two AWESOME games I found from Screenhead:

1. The Wheels Game - This is sooooo meditative.  Not one of those raise your blood pressure games at all.  The music is strange and unearthly and I found myself playing it over and over.  The hardest part for me was to actually hit the red dots and not just jump from wheel to wheel.  The blue dots are very fun.  One even gives you 'no gravity' which is a gas!
2. The Sherlock Holmes Game - A simple 'compare the pictures and find the differences' type of game.  Geez, we used to do this as entertainment when I was a kid.  Make the other kids leave the room and change up a few things and voila....a GAME!  Now it's on a computer screen and I loved it.  But I couldn't get past the woods on this.  If any of you do...........PLEASE let me know what the clues were cuz I could only find 4.

TNNA

So I went to TNNA on Sunday!  It was mad!  First, I have to say, that my idea of a convention is the NAMM show which is chockful of wailing guitars, bashing drums, blasting basses and really really loud chaos with everyone vying for attention at once.  So compared to that, TNNA was a quiet convention and I was okay with that.  (I've 'done' NAMM 7 times!)

Having said all that.....here's my take on the booths I hung with:

• ALCHEMY YARNS - Very nice people.  These yarns are so vibrant and gorgeous.  Pictures do not do them justice.  Meeting the folks behind the company made me love the yarns even more!
• CRYSTAL PALACE - Always a standard fave.  But again, meeting the folks who make this company tick....WOW!  I can understand why they've been around for so long.  Their new ribbon yarn: PARTY is really fun.  And I scored some Daisy Needles!!!!  Hooray!
• ROWAN - Well, hmmm....how can I say this?  I felt like a poor cousin in their booth.  Nobody would make eye contact with me, talk to me....nothing.  I took one of their new R2 magazines out of spite.  Crummy social skills, great yarn.
• LANA GROSSA - Again, a fave.  And again, the family behind the curtain are verrrrrry nice!  Makes ya just wanna get more PEP and make furry fuzzy things.

A New Year, A New Attitude!

I'm trying to change a lot so bear with me!

THE NEW HOW TO KNIT SECTION
First, I've sorted out a surf list on the right side exclusively for HOW TO KNIT!  Hey, I learned to knit by following along online to videos so I figure, you can too.

THE NEW CYBER ME AND MAYBE YOU
Secondly, I've changed browsers and email programs and if you're on a pc, I suggest you improve your quality of cyber life and make the change.  At first it can be a pain so be ready to make the shift only if you have time!  I'm now using Firefox for browsing and Thunderbird for email.  The benefits?  In layman's terms...Firefox uses 'tabbed browsing' so no more switching windows from down at the bottom.  It also remembers everything I want it to!   Other benefits...if you're a web designer, there's a little eye drop color picker you can add on and it will let you know the web color of ANYTHING!  Awesome feature.  For the Thunderbird part....hmmm....it lets me combine all my different identities into one swell program and it comes with a programmable junk mail program.  Very cool.

THE DAD NEWS
My dad is doing a little better yet again. My mom fought the doctors and got them to put him back on the medication he'd been on before he got so out of it.  Good ole ma!!!!  They agreed to do it 'against their better judgement'.  But my mom stood up for herself and said, "I think I know my husband of fifty years a little better than you!"  I'm proud of her.  It's not like he's gonna be coming home or anything but at least he is a little more comfortable.  Whew.

KNIT NEWS
I'm going to TNNA this Sunday and planning to hook up with a few fiber homeys while I'm there.  Should be interesting and hopefully inspiring!  Been knitting up some new designs of my own and winning a few and losing a few.  At least with knitting, when you 'lose', you always learn something! ha!

BAND MADNESS
Got a Hollywood gig tomorrow night!  yahoo.  Should be fun and decadently wild in that smoky, hazy, sleezy Hollyweird sort of way. 

FAMILY CHAOS
This time...it's Bam's family and not mine!  His brother is getting married to our wedding photographer in 10 days so Bam's mum and dad are flying in tomorrow AND....it's his dad's 83rd birthday tomorrow as well!  So life is getting a little bit mad overall right now.

FOR THE RECORD
I think it's safe to say I'm out of the blue funk I was swimming in during the holidays.  I think...next year...Bam and I will go someplace far far away.  I just can't handle the holidays.  I know everyone has a gripe about them.  There's a thousand reasons why it all got on me and I felt overwhelmed this year...but ...whatever.  Weird how the mind can play tricks on you and turn you into a vegetable isn't it?  Or am I the only moody psycho lunatic out there??????

FOR THOSE OF YOU IN THE COLD

On my 'list of crap to do' is taking pictures of loads of the stuff I need for this here blog.  Like the sun shining so brightly today I actually had to go sit in the shade cuz I was boiling!  ha!!!!

Integrity Sucks

So it's been waaaaaaay too long since I posted!  Just know that I spared you some tirade on misery and depression and feeling like a loser.  So now I'm back and wish I had some superbly witty way to blast back in to 2005.  But alas, it's just the same.......... yarn and rock n roll.  ha!

Got a big gig in Hollyweird Wednesday night.  We're playing at the Dragonfly and that's always a gas.  Bam's parents are flying in that day as well and it happens to be his dad's 83rd birthday!!!!  Bam's brother is getting married in 10 days so the family stuff is beginning to happen.  Of course, Bam is best man and our crazy producer friend, Ric is the minister.  They are getting married at an Irish pub here in LA.  Should be a very different wedding.  We like that. 

Knitting you may wonder?  Why yes.  Dahlink!  Of course.  When the depressions kick in, the knitting goes mad.  Although, this time,....well, I didn't do as much as I thought I would.  I got a few scarves done.  Mangled up an idea or two for some mad fingerless gauntlet lace up glove thingys.  I've knitted them 3 times now.  (BTW, is knitted a word?  or should it be knit?)  I am just so fussy.  I did finish an awesome pair of regular style fingerless gloves for Bam.  I am sooooooo in need or taking a picture and doing a free patterns section.  I will I will.

So in the spirit of getting on with it..........Thank you thank you thank you for the wonderful comments about my dad.  It is an incredibly hard time and I don't know how people do it.  I find myself just sitting on the couch and veging.  Which I NEVER do!  But I read and reread everyone's comments and thoughts even if I don't reply or email you.  Thank you.  YOU made a difference.

Rock on.  Knit on.  And always play the stereo loud.

Well, this has been a long delay.  I'm in Minnesota again with my parents.  My dad has gone even more downhill and can no longer walk at all.  He is so frail.  It's been a very hard visit for me and the gray skies and cold temperatures aren't helping much.

I just wanted to thank everyone for their lovely comments.  I'll be back in form soon.  For now....knit bravely, knit wildly and play your stereos loudly.
