VK and Knit1

Sheesh!  How could I forget to write about my hang at Unwind?  I met the fabuloso Ms. Adina Klein who wowed us with a presentation of the new Knit.1 mag.  The new issue has a centerfold!  How hilarious is that?  I was not prepared to be as blown away as I was by the designs.  Wow.  I know it's Lion Brand but c'mon....good design is just good design!  The new ish will feature a ton of men designers, yes that's MEN WHO KNIT!  One of the new designers was there as well, John Brinegar who is definitely someone to watch.

Adina also spoke of how VK and Knit.1 are open to new ideas from designers!  How cool is that?  Apparently, knit magazine sales are up over 10% in 2005 and Knit.1 is now going to 4 issues a year and will be available by subscription.  All good news for us knitters!

Writer's Cramp, Anyone?

I realized for the millionth time that my biggest problem is taking things personally.  I drive myself crazy with the inner chatter of rejections and what I perceive as rejection.  Wow.
Am I really that infantile?

In an effort to educate myself and find a new attitude....I went searching online and found this absolutely excellent article:

In non-knitting queries...........is anyone participating in the 2005  'write a novel in a month'?
I'm a member but have yet to actually make the 'real' commitment.  Wondering if there are any knitters out there who are going to be novelists!

Hey, honey! Let's have 16 kids!

I just ran across this family with 16 children and had to post a link.  Imagine?  Makes me feel very appreciative of my own humble existence.  I think they've been in the press alot lately so forgive me if this is a second time for any of you.  But doesn't it bear repeating? 

They homeschool the chillun and that includes Bible studies (of course)....they have removed broadcast TV from their home (same here!) and they have 7 computers (we have 4)......
And yes, they have more than one set of twins.

There is really only one thing to say.......Wow.

Book, Telly, Madness Ensues

Today is the day............THE NEW SEASON OF ALIAS COMES OUT ON DVD!
Yes, I am a certified member of AA.......Alias Anonymous.  Damn, I am so addicted.
We've been to Blockbuster and rented the first three dvd's.  But in true addict fashion, I have to earn it and work a bunch first.

Baby Knits
I knit up a quick pair of booties and a hat for our friends baby.  I used Rowan Wool/Cotton as it is one of my faves for wee ones.  So soft and so nice to work with. 

The hat is from Frugalhaus but the booties were a private pattern so I cannot share those. 
The Turkish Delight is for the mother cuz it's her fave candy!

Found this site and marvelled at the concept.  Here it is:
Put up a site where you have no company, no employees but you have a concept.
Get people to do loads of work and send it in to you.
Put up disclaimers so you cannot be sued by the 'big guys'.
Offer up small cash prizes and coupons to other sites.

Is this good?
Is this a ripoff?

Is it like getting you to do all the work and you get next to nothing?

Punk Knits
We are working on many many ideas for Punk Knits!  We have needles coming out sooooooon and we are working on a TV show idea.  If the show happens, we will put it up on the punk knits site as clips.  In the meantime, I am hard at work on the patterns!

Knit One
I am going to Unwind tonight to meet Adina Klein the Fashion Director for Vogue Knitting and Knit One.  Can't wait to meet her and preview the new issue of K1.  However, I think it's the 'all guy' ish.  Ah well.  Still be cool to meet her.  And hang with other fiber fiends.  And talk freely about knitting with other addicts. 

 

Rollercoaster

Well, I thought I was holding up pretty well.  But I fell apart today.  Yes, rivers of tears just flowing from my eyes like a dam had burst.  Sigh.  ah, well.

anyway, here's some thoughts n stuff on everything I can think of ...........

Baby Alert
Our best friends, Jo and Caroline had a baby yesterday!  Isabel was born on October 18, 2005 at 8:43 am ...the same day as Chuck Berry.  (Jo is an awesome guitarist)  So you know what that means?  Yes, I've been knitting baby booties.  Thing is.......the baby wasn't due until November 13!!!!!  But she is healthy and so is Caroline.  Whew!

Knitting Is Contagious
I mentioned that I'd taught Charlotte, Bam's daughter to knit.....here she is with her first scarf!

she hasn't stopped knitting and has made 2 more scarves...?  or is it three?  she is pawing thru my stash asking....do you need this? can i have that?  he he!  it is so funny and cool that she has the fever!

Day At The Beach

Hangin' out at Santa Monica Pier.  We rode bikes, goofed off, had lousy pizza, Max got buried in the sand and it was a regular family day at the beach. 

Designs on Knitting
Somebody emailed and asked me how I thought of designs.  It was funny how hard that was to answer.  How do you all get your designing ideas?  I get mine from necessity.  I want something a certain way and the only way to get that is to design and knit it myself.  I find experimenting with colors to be helpful and combining yarns is an awesome way to invent my own 'fabrics'.

Tomorrow
Is another day and I hope that it is better than today was.  I knew there would be rough days but damn, they are so bumpy.  I feel like I'm on a rollercoaster and it scares me to not be in control of this particular ride.  Thank you for all the encouraging comments and emails.  Rock on.....knit on.......and remember, we're all just learning to 'be'.

Knitt-ay, Gritt-ay!

It's been a busy week!  Crazy schedule with bands in the studio recording and getting all the knitting done for Knitty Gritty!  But I love it.

In other news.......Max is here for a few days with his big sister from England and we're off to the beach today. 

Get Organized
I have been using this free online list system.  It's easy and it's accessible from any computer.  If you have a million things on (who doesn't?) ..........it's a great way to keep track of it all.

 

I'm Back and I'm Baaaaaaaaad!

Yeah!  I'm back!  But first off......THANK YOU fellow bloggers, knitters, cyber pals.....for the incredible support you've shown me about losing my mom.  I felt hugged by many of you and it really did help.

The Punk Knits Photo Shoot
I still mourn my mom on many days and in many unexpected moments....but ....we had the photo shoot for the book and it was sheer, utter madness!  25 models wearing 29 pieces for Punk Knits!  Ya gotta love it.  All of them crazed Hollywood peoples.  It was a gas!  Focusing on the book has been a helpful distraction in dealing with the whole grief process.  How cool is that?   I am hoping to show you all some piccie previews soooooooon.

Another Knitter Gets Hooked
Bam's daughter, Charlotte is visiting from the UK and guess who's learned to knit?  Yes, another joins the addiction.  She's got two scarves on the go!  I'm so proud of her. 

LA Life
In other madness, we've got two bands coming in the studio in the next week and then I'm off to tape an episode of Knitty Gritty to promote the book!  Sadly, it won't air until next year in the fall.  But that makes sense cuz it's when the book comes out.
